Attitude

Ive recently taken part in Sunderland Universitys mentoring programme aimed at Year 1 students. The University decided to embark on this to enable the Year 1s who volunteered for the programme to get a real life take on their chosen course from someone in that industry.
My mentee Nadia born and bred in Sunderland is a smasher really she is. She is so enthusiastic so confident very knowledgeable and to top it off has great communication skills. Most of all what I like about Nadia draws me back to my corporate days at Brook Street and a little lesson on attitude
There is little difference between people
That little difference makes a very big difference
The little difference is attitude
The BIG difference is whether it is positive or negative

Persistence Pays

I was so fortunate to have amazing sales training in my corporate career with Brook Street. One of the valuable lessons in sales we were taught is that in order to gain clients you really must buid relatiionships. Not every sale is a quick one a good CRM Customer Relationship Management system is a must and persisentence not pestering really does pay.
So this lesson has really stuck with me and just this month proved me right again when I won a project to deliver Social Media training to the biggest company I have worked with a 125 year old national retailer theyd had the proposal for nearly 12 months. Good CRM meant I kept following up and remaining on their radar.
So sales people stick with it your next WIN could be just around the corner.

Elevator Pitch using funding as bait

One of the most important things about attending any networking event is your elevator pitch.
The last event I attended 2 people on my table included this statement in their pitch and you can get funding working with us what message does that give to me That they have to sell the funding aspect to get you to buy their service Is their service not good enough to be sold without the funding bait
So this leads me to wonder how many business models will have to change over the next 12 months when the funding diminishes...

National Cupcake Week The Winners

2 weeks ago I ran a twitter competition for National Cupcake Week. Entrants had to tell me why their workplace should win a yummy box of 12 logo cakes. The response was fantastic but their could only be one winner....hmmm not quite there were two who recieved their boxes on Friday. The first box went to callagentsuk a business set up after being made redundant from CJ Garland amp Co. Rachel amp the team thoroughly deserved their box of cakes after enduring months of hardwork to get their business up and running. Well done x The second box went to codoherty who applied on behalf of The Sick Childrens Trust in Newcastle. I had the great pleasure of personally delivering Carolines cakes and meeting the fantastic team at Crawford House. What amazing place and an amazing charity. Enjoy x
